「はだしのゲン」アラビア語版第１巻・表紙
はだしのゲンをひろめる会は、トランプ米国大統領がイスラム圏7か国からの入国を禁止した大統領令に署名したことへの抗議とアラブ諸国へのエールのため、アラビア語を公用語にしている国の大使館・領事館に『はだしのゲン』アラビア語版第1巻を23冊寄贈しました。
寄贈先は下記の各国大使館20冊、領事館3冊、計23冊です。

「はだしのゲン」をひろめる会の代表としてお手紙を差し上げます。
私達は広島での原爆をテーマとしたマンガ『はだしのゲン』を、国内外の人たちに紹介する活動をしています。
初めてのアラビア語版の第1巻をどうぞお受け取りください。
作者の故中沢啓治さんは６歳の時、広島で被爆し、その後マンガ家として生計を立てていましたが、長い間原爆から目を背けていました。しかし母親の死を機に原爆への怒りが爆発、それをエネルギーとして30年の時を経て自らが広島で見聞きしたことを中心にこの作品を書きはじめました。本書は全10巻からなります。
主人公ゲンは日本の子供たちにとって核兵器の恐ろしさと平和の尊さを伝える重要なシンボルです。以来、『はだしのゲン』は24言語に訳されています。
『ゲン』のアラビア語版はカイロ大学のエルシリビーニ・マーヘル教授の翻訳で2015年にエジプトで第1巻が出版されました。
アラビア語を公用語とされています各国の大使館の皆様方に、本書の第１巻を寄贈することをうれしく思います。どうぞ同封の本をお受け取りください。
世界の若者が『はだしのゲン』を読んで、核戦争の恐ろしさと危険性について真剣に考える切っ掛けになることを切に願っています。

I hope this letter finds you well during the cold winter months in Tokyo.
I am writing to you as representative of the “Barefoot Gen” Promotion Group, a non-profit organization dedicated to introducing readers worldwide to the graphic novel Barefoot Gen, which tells the true story of survivors of the atomic bomb in Hiroshima. Please accept from us this copy of Volume One of the first Arabic translation of Barefoot Gen.
The author, Keiji Nakazawa, was irradiated by the atomic bomb when he was six years old. He lost most of his family in the bombing, but survived and grew up to be a professional cartoonist. Though he had tried to put the tragic experience behind him, his mother’s death from leukemia inspired him to create Hadashi no Gen (“Barefoot Gen” in English) as a serialized graphic novel about what he saw in Hiroshima. The complete story fills ten volumes. The hero, Gen, has become an important symbol to Japanese children conveying the horrors of nuclear war and the importance of peace.
Since then, Barefoot Gen has been translated into 24 languages. Professor Maher El-Sherbini of Cairo University has translated the entire series into Arabic, and Volume One was published in Egypt in 2015. Therefore we are pleased to donate Volume One to the embassies of nations whose official language is Arabic. Please accept the enclosed book with our sincere best wishes.
It is our deepest hope that young people all over the world will read Barefoot Gen and be inspired to think more seriously about the horrors and dangers of nuclear war.
